For presentation ideas I would tell them to maybe do a speech on a favorite item,hobby,past time, etc.. This way you get to know about them and a lil something about their interests.
I remember we one time we had to do a speech about what kind of buisness we would open if we had the chance and why. It was pretty fun and creative because we could get as creative as we wanted.
For animal shelters, even if they cant physically donate their time in the shelters, doing some sort of food drive or even newspapers, toys, money etc. Would be a huge help as the shelters are always in need of these things.
You could also ask the kids to ask everyone they know families friends nieghbors and see if anyone is getting rid of old blankets,sheets, and towels for homeless shelters or the homless.
A toy drive for children in hospitals, also books for the kids in hospitals or even schools that are in need of them.
