Believe me, there is a BIG difference in the smell of long time filth...there is such a distinct odor that comes from a nasty kennel that does not materialize in a few hours on a plane from being sick.
I had received Coco at the airport and though she had peed in her crate and pooped, she did NOT smell that bad. I of course gave her a bath but I could tell she was clean before because parts of her still smelled good There is most def. a distinct odor with animals who have not been kept well. Also my baby traveled 5.5 hours and the minute I got her out of her crate, she was hopping around like a bunny. She wasn't shy or scared.
