I would never let mine play with a larger dog - you just never know what can happen, and why take that chance. That's why I have two puppies, so they always have a playmate. There are lots of nice big dogs, and something can happen even without there being vicious intent - big dogs play like big dogs and I think that's too rough for my little guys.

I think you're absolutely right to decline play with unknown dogs - large or small. Don't worry about what other people think. Do what your gut tells you. You just never know.

Actually, the other day I was out walking Oscar and Ruthie and a girl with a med-small size dog (3 times the size of Oscar) was coming towards us. SHE picked up HER dog - lol, I thought that was kindof funny...
