Likely same principle my Mom used on us kids, if she was cold, we got a sweater on. LOL
Seriously though, if it is pretty cold outside and your YOrkie is out, he/she may need a coat or sweater and certainly a good idea if it is raining. BUt some get too warm with a sweater. My Ben would stop moving if he got too hot. I would put my hand under the sweater or coat to see if he was too warm, take it off and see what he would do. IF he continued on, then he was getting too hot.
