I used to pay for a company to come in and treat my carpets it was safe to have birds and other animals on the floor immediatly afterwards. The guy told me it was just borax. I have used it a few times since then with no probs. i do try to keep the animals out of the treated room before I vacuum but sometimes it is just impossible.
Jiggety Jig was correct, you leave it for 24 hrs and then vacuum. And you do need to sweep it into the fibers.
