IMO ... the vet you choose is as important as a good breeder if your baby is extremely small. They have to be treated a little differently ... since they are small they have to have smaller doses of meds, less anesthesia, etc. It's amazing to me the number of horror stories about perfectly healthy babies that go in for routine procedures and never wake up! This happened to one of our breeders babies ... she insists, on those rare occasions when she sells one of her pups, that you bring it back to her for spay/neuter. She had a lady buy one of her pups and promised to bring her back to her to arrange for her spaying. The lady just went on and took the pup to a vet on her on ... the baby never woke up! Our breeder still grieves for that poor baby! Fortunately for us, the vet that our breeder uses [which, by the way is over a hundred mile drive for her] specializes in these tiny creatures and it's only a 45 minute drive from our home! We gladly drive that distance because we have complete confidence in Dr. Lucy! You are doing all your research before you find your baby [which is what we also did] so I just wanted to share this!
