I'm sorry you feel like you have to apologize. It has already been said, but I'll say it again - when you ask for opinions you will get them in all shapes and forms. Please don't fret over it. You will find lots of great information here much more readily than searching through books. Hang in there, there are many very friendly folks here as well as many who are very passionate and that comes across in their replies.
All that being said, I wouldn't give up on your little one's coat. Give her a chance to get a little older and you may be pleasantly surprised.
