As long as the area you confine her to is puppy proof, I see no reason why not to try. Start for a short time, then gradually increase the time she is alone. When she makes a mistake, back in the pen she goes for a while. Gracie is now 4 1/2 months and has mastered the stairs, so I let her run around as she wants when I am home. When I am gone, she is in her pen.
