I have the Sherpa Backpack which I find is great for my needs. I saw that a few people said that the Pak O Pet was heavy - I'd really like to see one in person before I buy it...

I found this info on travel with pets to Italy that might be useful:
from http://www.touringclub.it/internatio...re_leaving.asp

"A traveller entering Italy with a dog or a cat must have a veterinarian's certificate issued in the previous month stating the animal is in good health, plus a certificate stating it was vaccinated against rabies no more than 20 days to 11 months (6 months for cats) prior to entry.

Both certificates are valid for 30 days, must be also in Italian and give the breed, age, sex and color of the pet and the name and address of the owner.

The forms are available from all Italian diplomatic and consular representatives. A dog must be on a leash and muzzled when in public places. Parrots, parakeets, rabbits and hares also require health certificates and, in addition, are subject to an examination when entering Italy. Customs officials may demand a medical examination of any pet they suspect is ill or arriving direct from tropical regions.
