Also, as far as the flexi - take it from someone who trains it is NOT a good idea to use the flexi even if you lock it. You will be juggling the flexi and treats and it won't work. Just get a cheap 4 or 6 foot leash. I like 4 foot for walks because it doesn't drag. I use a 6 foot for training class because Loki has to be walking around me and stuff for Rally. You'll probably be best off with a 4' 3/8"wide leash.

My trainer doesn't allow Flexi leashes. Plus, like you said, it's easier to handle a regular leash and treats than a flexi.
