However, you could always do as irishawk said and look into the discount spay/neuter clinics...that is always an option
Here in my town, Adopt A Pet does it ALOT cheaper than the vets...but for some reason I just feel more comfortable taking him to the vet that I've used for all my other animals. He is GREAT!
I'd do some research though...I'm sure most of these discount spay/neuter clinics are just fine!
As far as his age goes, I would ask your vet. If it were me, I would rather wait until he was a little older (6 months) to neuter, but if you really want to get it done now, and your vet says it's fine, then I say go for it
