You novice people are scaring me ........ You can really cut your dog bad if you do not know what you are doing so always trim when the vet is open!!!! You can order all of your grooming supplies from Pet Edge and you will save a lot of money. Yes your groomer is right always be very careful around the inside thigh area if you feel there, you will see the very thin skin there and it is easy to lay a dog right open. And yes the arm pits is another area that can be cut very easy. Go slow and watch what you are doing. If you are afraid you can order a # 40 blade and a attachment that will cut the hair the length you like with out the worry of injury to your dog. If you need help with anything you can pm me.
