Emma is terrified of the car too. I used to crate her like you did, with the seat belt. She too will make those awful screams, barks, and howls in there. It's SO hard to concentrate on the road when she does that!
I recently got a doggie-carseat that hooks over the front seat head rest and around the seat. I put her in that-she's anchored by her harness attached to the carseat so she can't jump out. Though she still freaks out in there, her howls and screams are reduced to a nervous panting. I'm not crazy about having her in the front seat with the airbag and all, but I suppose that's safer than having the distraction of crying and barking!
You might try one of these...got it at Petsmart, brand is "Outward Hound", I think it was $30 or so. |
