It's not rude at all, you're just trying to suppress the number of posts! (There have been a lot since there are so many new members!) I'm part of some forums including this one and people tend to be repetitive with questions.
It's real helpful for newcomers who see the question on the front page and know what they're looking for. Some might not know how to search posts and some may get lazy to click through them all (I know that happens to me, too!).
Perhaps, you could find a related post and post a link in the newer thread to direct them to the older one with more answers.
Some of us that have been around for a little bit longer might have seen the question before but the newer folks might not know if the question has been answered already so maybe you could help em find it!
