Our Sara is 6 pounds and easily climbs and descends stairs whether they are carpeted or not. We have a nice fabric covered bench at the end of our tall bed, so she can get up and down if she wants. She has NO problem jumping up on the sofa or chairs. Can't help you with the grooming - I'm too scared to try it myself
