This happened to my Nikko once. I think its because your dog hasn't really developed "walking callouses" on his paw pads. This happens to Nikko over the winter because I really don't take him out in the cold. His paw pads get soft and sensitive and as soon as I take him out to the cement, he scrapes them. Like with your dog, he never seemed to be in pain and it looked worse than it really was. Maybe you can try putting booties on him so as to protect his paws on walks. After a while though, I think the pads toughen up on their own and he'll be fine. Good luck to you and if you feel really concerned about this, by all means check with your vet.
