Polydipsia/Polyuria are just symptoms of many things, just like your dog doesn't have parvo just because he has diarrhea.

I would measure his intake of water, if it is a lot more than 30 ml (about an ounce) per pound per day then I would seek a vet's opinion. Diabetes, kidney and liver problems, pituary disorders like Addisons and Cushings are just a few of the ones that list polydipsia and polyuria in their list of symptoms.
