Spanking a puppy will only make him afraid of you and eventually cause him to defend himself, hence, aggression!
You need to have patience with him and repremand him in a humanly fashion when he chews and nips on you. Believe me he will outgrow this.

Babies chew on your fingers when they are teething, would you spank them also?
