I start by bringing his toy out-just one favourite. When he is out, he is very excited and tend to forget everything I taught him at home. I just keep up my tone of voice, sound cheery and make sure he hears me and walk very fast while calling him along. In the same time, you can shake your toy while talking and lead him along. Juts go for short walk as a start and end it with a treat. Do it a few times a day. Mine got the hang of it after 2 days.
I know there are a lot of people who say dogs must only walk on the left side. You can do that later on after he start walking nicely on the leash with giving treats when he is walking on the left side. I personally feel that dogs are not robots so why can't they walk on the right and left side. I let mine walk right or left so long he doesn't pull on the leash. Its always good to start training your dog not to pull on leashes when they are still young and not as strong.
Always have your dog on leash though. I know there are a lot of people that are tempted to let their dogs off leash but personally, I wouldn't do that. You never know the danger that may be lurking. Other big dogs, car, things that you don't want him to get in to..etc.. |
