My puppy school teacher said not to even consider trying until they are 5-6 months old, because they won't understand any earlier than that. For now, in the house, you can practice by holding a treat at your side as you walk along, kind of bend over and coax the babe to walk at your side, using the treat as a guide. Lots of praise when your little one does what you want it to!
