I do not understand why you asked for him back if you think you did what was right for him? I am sorry for the loss of your other dog. I understand the feeling of missing a pet, and if he was in a bad situation where he wasn't being cared for, I would support the decision to try to get him back. Aggressive towards your child is a red flag to me. Also, he was killing your chickens? It doesn't sound like it was a good mix there. Is your yard fenced in? Did you try taking him out on a harness and leash?
It sounds like he has found a loving home with someone who will give him the time and attention he deserves. I know you must miss him dearly, it is amazing how fast they work their way into our hearts.
Did you meet with the lady before your let her take him?
