I would trim them.

I did that to my bella, she has some REALLY hairy ears and thats why they would not stand up, But I trimmed them and I didnt let the hair get to heavy on them. Then they started standing up on there own.

I trimmed them every time one of her ears look like it wanted to fall. This went on for about 2 months and now they stay up on there own. she is 7months old.

Remind your hubby the hair will grow back. Its not going to stay like that for every!.
