We also made the mistake early on of not leaving her alone - - at all (we didn't go out to dinner for 5 months!) we are now considering getting a second baby as a playmate for her. My questions are:
1) How easy is it for a spoiled rotten baby to adjust to a new puppy?
2) Do they really play together and keep each other company?
3) My preference is for another female - but she does display some aggressive tendencies towards other females in the neighborhood (not yorkies).
4) I will get our second bundle from the same breeder - and am thinking that asking for a puppy from the same mom and dad might be a good idea as she is so beautiful (aren't they all) and has a really sweet personality (yea or nay?).
You always have such wonderful advice I would appreciate any thoughts, suggestions, and comments!! | Welcome to my world. Well, like you, hubby and I retired more than a year ago. I thought it the perfect time to fulfill the dreams I had for years...to have a small dog, one that I could hold in my hands. I was retired two months and my sister called from Indiana to say she had a lead on a Yorkie that was going to be available. Little Jack was a 4 lb. year old precious little guy we rescued. After we all adjusted to one another, I was yearning for a little girl Jill. We brought Jill into our family in April. For the first two weeks I was certain I had made the wrong decision. Jack was not very happy with the new arrival. We ended up separating the two and gradually introducing them. I was in tears thinking I had made a terrible mistake. Thats when all the wonderful people here on YT came to my rescue and reassured me that it would work out just fine and just give it time. They were right. Jack and Jill are now the best of friends.
I feel much better leaving the house when I can't take them with me knowing the two of them are keeping each other company. As mentioned, you will have double vet expenses. Also know that you will probably not get an identical personality to Mignon. The new one might be harder to potty train, as an example or bark more. I would have to say that Jack is more affectionate. But they definately do play hard together. You probably won't get anyone here on YT to tell you NO...DON't DO IT! Because we love our multiple little furbabies so much and want to see others have that same joy.
