We went back and forth on whether or not we should train Hercules to go outside or on a pee pad inside. Like Luna, Hercules was more interested in playing with the pee pad than using it to go potty.
So then we decided to train him to go outside. We live in an apartment, on the 3rd floor. After a week of running up and down 34 steps (I would count them, it was so much) we came up w/ the idea of building a "balcony park" for him to use. We just built a little box and put it on the balcony for him to do his business in. Our plan is to find some sod to put in it, to make it like grass, so he would be used to going outside and on grass. But we've had difficulty finding sod, so we put a pee pad on it and them some leaves on top. This keeps the pee pad in place (it actually fits perfectly inside the box) and he's still learning to go outside.
Hercules is 3 months today and we've been doing this for almost 2 weeks and he seems to be catching on. He's actually gone to the door a few times and when we take him outside he goes. He still has some accidents, but that's completely understandable.
A suggestion for you is to build a little box to put the pee pad in (like fasteddie suggested). |
