The owners of Gizmo, a 16-year-old Yorkshire terrier reportedly killed last month when he was kicked like a football, are now asking for $200,000 in a civil lawsuit.
The dog's owners, identified in the lawsuit as Jelani and Jessica Lewis, are asking for monetary damages from the accused kicker, Chad Daniel Crawford, two other men, and Nashboro Village Apartments, where the couple lives. The couple seeks punitive and compensatory damages.
Crawford was a maintenance worker at the apartments at the time of the incident, according to the lawsuit, and has denied responsibility. Metro police arrested Crawford and charged him with cruelty to animals and felony vandalism.
One of the men named in the lawsuit, Michael Lee Davis, has declined to comment previously when contacted by the Tennessean. Neither he nor the other man have been charged with any crime. Managers for the apartments also have declined to comment previously.
