My Oliver is about 4 months now and I keep him crated from 11pm until as long as he sleeps, he will usually start scratching or whining, we keep him in our bedroom (sometimes at 530am or 730am) If I get up to pee at night, I take him out QUICK for a potty and put him right back in and then he's quiet till 9'ish AM if I do that.
I let him out when he gets up 1st thing, then feed him, then play with him for a bit. It really depends on your schedule, I guess. I am working from home now so I am more flexible. Sometimes I crate him for an hour or two in the AM while I work.
He usually goes back in his crate after lunch and he goes to the bathroom, around 1pm till 5pm while I work at home and he is generally pretty quiet.
After I finish working at 5 or so, I watch him vigilantly and take him out every hour or so. Then back in the crate while I make supper and stuff for like an hour. Then outside to pee (every time I take him out of the crate I take him outside) and then we feed him at around 8pm and keep him out of his crate playing, then out every hour and then back in the crate by 10 or 11pm.
I like the feeding schedule cause now I get to know his bowel schedule pretty well. Oh, and we also take his water dish after around 900pm or so. I mean, if he keeps going back to it like he is thirsty I give him a little. But it helps him through the night I think, not to wake up having to pee.
It is so funny, tonight my husband changed into his pajamas(once my hubby changes he doesn't take him out - doesn't like going out in his pj's - so it becomes my job but I am usually in bed early, lol), and Oliver walked right into his crate and laid down all by himself...lol. Like he knew, "well he is wearing pajamas, I won't be going out again tonight" Like he knew it was time for bed. LOL .... he is so sweet!
Sorry that was so long!
