I would try to examine his mouth to see exactly what went on. Get some help and wrap him in a towel. If it is a broken permanent tooth then the remaining part will have to be removed or it will get infected. If it was just a baby tooth that you helped out then the remaining root will probably dissolve on its own, but not always. I would find out the location and then check the gum line every day or two to look for any swelling indicating infection (abscess). If he avoids eating hard dry food or seems to be eating only on one side for more than a day or two I would take him to the vet.
