This is how I read to teach them...You make them lie down then hold the treat in front of them a little ways really close to the ground. They should try to move towards it and if they try and stand to move them you put your hand on the back and don't let them stand. They way they will have to crawl to get it. As they crawl you move the treat away.
It didn't work with Reagan at all though. My bloodhound could and would do it for a while and this is how I taught her. But you can try this way and maybe some one will also have another way for you to try.
