I would get some Cowboy Magic (feed stores usually carry it, or Ebay). Other members on here have mentioned Johnson &Johnson, no more tangles works well too.
My little boy will matt and the Cowboy Magic works great on him. When I use the Cowboy Magic and get the matts out, they seem to stay out for at least a week. I just have to stay on him and keep him combed out all the time.
