Yes, I am an organ, tissue and bone donor and so are both of my children. My hubby, however is against this and is not one. We have agreed to disagree and he also agreed not to challenge this should the deicision ever be ours to make regarding our adult children.

My stepfather was an organ donor and when he passed away, because of health reasons, the only thing they could use was his corneas, but they both went to people who now see because of them.

6 years ago, my daughter's then dance instructor's daughter was hit by a car. She was brain dead upon arrival at the hospital and they elected to donate her organs. Everything was used and they have met several of the recipients and became very involved in fundraising and organ donation awareness.

This is a topic that all families should openly discuss. If one family member expresses negativity, organs WILL NOT be harvested regardless of the wishes of the person from whom they would be coming. It is important to know and honor what your loved ones would want - not what your own thoughts/needs are.

I personally feel this is the most generous gift anyone could give of themselves.
