I don't think they are highly contagious. Generally long ear breeds have problems with this, not our babies. Mites like warm and moist. If you can get some cotton or kleenex in her ear to clean the brown/black junk out. Also, getting any water out will help tons. They love the wet stuff.
I wouldn't worry about this being an on going problem though.
