You have to start off by giving up little 'habits' I was a soda addict and left that. I eat 5-6 small frequent meals with lots of fruits and veggies. I don't eat refined sugars or white bread or pasta. I walk my poodle in the evenings and that is my excercise.
I use olive or canola oil and stay away from trans fat. Water is my best frined and eat my veggies!
