When he sits or lays down and refuses to move - then you've gone too far!!
Seriously, I go more by distance and how much Sissy starts to pant than by time. Other factors such as the temperature affect how long we're out for too. When it starts getting colder, she will shiver pretty quickly too. So, we may only make it to the end of the block! As long as you are getting lots of indoor playtime in - I wouldn't worry about the length of time.
