not experienced, but getting there. I've had Lexy since she was 7 weeks old, and right now she is five and a half months. For the first few months I litter trained her, and I got her up to 75% success, but then I took a long vacation to my sister's house. Of course she came with me, but then I had to re-train her to go outside.
When she got back, she was making a mess EVERYWHERE. I literally was thiiis close to giving up and thinking she would just be a pee and poo monster all her life.
Then maturity hit around 4.5 months. Now she goes outside and goes in her litter box when she's in her pen area. I can leave her alone for 8-9 hours and it's okay because she has her litter box. Of course, I don't recommend doing this, but it's been a blessing when I had to stay in my office longer than I wanted.
The biggest advice I can give you when it comes ot litter training is to KEEP your litter box in one place and DO NOT (unless you absolutely must) switch materials. I use feline pine mixed with some cat litter.
Right now, I'm not too concerned about training her to use the litter box when she's not in the pen, but I'm hoping to slowly do that so I can get rid of the pen and just leave her in the house. |
