Yes, I do the same with Joey. He understands "quiet" and will respond to it. I also use management - I keep the curtains closed that are in front of the sofa that he likes to lay on. If the preschoolers next door are in their back yard, I bring him immediately back in the house after pottying because I know he likes to bark at them.

I think when you first teach a quiet command, it's good to use a yummy treat so that it's worth their effort. Personally, I quickly switched to a piece of kibble as a treat to try to avert that chain - bark, quiet, treat.
