TumblnStar -- My Yorkie was a year old the 5th of September and has never had a sick day in his life - and has never been to a chiropractor.

My Bichon is 5 years old now and has never had a sick day in his life and has never been to a chiropractor.

I have worked in medicine for more than 35 years (closer to 50 - if I count the many times I had more than one job), and my husband was a physician --internist/radiologist. I know a lot of people who would die for their chiropractors and go to them constantly --- but I have never had to go to one. I have never had any medical problem (few actually) that couldn't be managed by MDs with traditional care.

Don't get me wrong. I think chiropractors are great - for some people and for some problems. They really are - and recently (much more than in the past) MDs are realizing a lot of the good work that they can do.

I work in Cardiology now - and I can tell you for sure that a lot of our patients spend a lot of time and money at a Chiropractor's office. They swear by them. But, I will have to admit - that most of our patients are going to them for their back and other orthopedic problems, which Chiropractors are most competent at treating.

**** If you are truly aware of a chiropractor's training and abilities - you will realize that there certainly are a lot of health problems that they are especially qualified to treat...my doctors admit that without hesitation.

BUT - a lot of other health problems are best left to physicians and specialists that are best trained to practice in those areas.

***** I hate to tell you that in medicine - we have had so many unfortunate experiences - people with health problems who didn't get the care they needed soon enough -- because they weren't seeing the specialists and doctors they should have been seeing.... and sadly when they finally did - it was too late to treat (usually cancer).

So - in the end - I agree with you. Chiropractors can treat a lot of health problems. But by no means are they the cure-all for every health problem we have. We have to do all that we can to get a correct diagnosis and see what ever specialists can best treat these problems. And, "yes" - chiropractors can often do a lot. But they are "light years" away from having the knowledge, experience, and training that traditional medical doctors have....

I will certainly continue to use my vet as my first choice for care and treatment for my pets -- but, at the same time, I know she believes that chiropractic treatment is sometimes the way to go.
