I had my xpen on carpet, but I guess Im one of the ones that didn't have anything on the carpet. I was afraid of putting the shower curtain down because I didn't want her missing the pad and then getting all in her pee. What i did was not let the xpen out all the way. There was enough room for the pee pad, her food & water and then bed and toys. As she got older, I made it bigger. She never missed the pad! I made sure to get the ones that attract with the smell.
