Well, there are other signs to go by. You don't want the discharge to be dark red and heavy regardless of what day it is (this means she isn't ready yet). I'd see how they act before day 10 if her discharge is right. If she isn't ready and willing to stand (she will move her tail to the side), then just check again the next day. Hopefully your little man will eat. I'd try putting a little cottage cheese in his food.
