I dont think anyone whos worked with rescues understand the seriousness of the overpopulation problem. Im sure if they did they wouldnt be creating "new breeds"
I have a chihuahua here and she was bred by her previous owners because she was cute, both puppies died one was decapitated because she was to small to be bred. Not every dog is meant to be bred.
I agree with this. I apologize and I did not want to be rude. I meant mix and wrote mutt. However I did not mean "mutt" as a bad word! I just feel horrified by the many mixing breeds and by all the "mix" animals we find at the pound and shelter. Why promoting a mix dog when there are many sweet angels that are be killed because nobody want them?? I just feel that Responsible breeders will not sell their dogs to people who are deliberately breeding mixed breeds. Thus, people breeding mixes usually have dogs that are not of high quality and have not been health tested.
"Hybrid vigor" in dogs is a myth because all dogs are dogs. A hybrid is created when two different species are mixed together, not when two different breeds of dogs are bred together. In reality,, breeding two different breeds of dogs together, then interbreeding the puppies intensifies the risk of genetic disease. For example, toy poodles can be subject to eye and skin diseases that are not found in Cocker Spaniels, while Cockers have some eye disorders of their own not found in poodles. When toy poodles and cockers are bred together to create cockapoos, the resultant puppies can now carry the genes for the disorders found in poodles as well as those found in Cockers!
If you really want a cute little mixed-breed, rescue one from a shelter. There are many!!! And we go back to the overpopulation. I do not think we should support this type of breedings. And the fancy name "signature dogs" instead of mix dog. Let me clarify one point, because there is no central registry body for "cockapoos, or Morkie or wherever new fancy name"
(and no, the "Continental Kennel Club" does not count) there is
nothing to stop anyone from claiming that any particular dog is a
"cockapoo". Unfortunately, many people do believe the "cockapoo or the morkie" is actually a
breed and is actually registered by the AKC or some other reputable
kennel club. This is not the case. A _breed_ of dog is defined by the
ability of two animals of the same breed to produce others just like
it. An established breed, moreover, has a well defined "standard" that
clearly lists how it should look or how it should perform.

If you breed two "cockapoos" together, you will get results ranging
from very much poodle like to very cocker like, with no uniformity or
predictability.

Other mixed breeds that are marketed under cute names include
peekapoos, maltipoos, and the like. All the caveats I list here apply
to these mixes as well.

If "cockapoo or morkie..." breeders were actually interested in establishing this as a real breed, you would see them forming a breed club and hammering
out a descriptive standard. You would find them selectively breeding
"cockapoos" to "cockapoos", making an effort to keep the dogs they
thought would best contribute to the quality of their dogs, keeping
detailed breeding records that can later form records acceptable to
the AKC, and selling their extra puppies on non breeding agreements.

One more thing to say, if the breeding of two breeds was done by mistake I will agree to try to find a home for the offspring and try to sell them. But please, be honest and do not promote a breed that actually does not exists, a Morkie!.
