CKC is a different registry. Continental Kennel Club. They are currently accepting open registration, so theoretically, you can register a dog w/out papers with them. However, in your situation, I wouldn't bank on being able to do that. Last I spoke with a CKC rep, which was a few months ago, she said their goal was to end the open registration by the beginning of 2007. Your dog has to be 6 months of age in order to free register him/her. I doubt you would make the deadline. I would say that if you are even remotely considering breeding again, you opt for the AKC registered pup....but I know that registration has not previously been a concern of yours, so I'd say just make sure you get a dog that is of good breed quality.
(And PS, most will concur that 8 weeks is STILL to young to leave the momma. More than likely, your 'breeder' changed his release age because it is illegal in Ohio to release a pup younger than 8 weeks of age.
