Welcome to yorkie talk and I hope you find what you are looking for.
Ok..Well I'm going to put my 2 cents worth in.
Registery are only as good as the honesty of the breeder and the quality of the dogs being bred.
I think It's an unfair statement to say if the dog is not AKC it's worthless or not going to be healthy.
Most hold AKC up like it's the holy grail.
They are just as many shady AKC breeders ..as there are in other registries.
DNA Testing ..Really
Now....just how often does someone have this ran???
I'd say not very often.
Why would this test be run..
If someone buy a showdog and is not sure the dog came from the parents stated they may have it ran..
But ( not normally going to be done by a pet owner)
Two males tie with the same dam.( testing not likely going to be done by someone who breeds for profit only).
Someone could breed a different registered dog (say apri )
but they also have AKC dogs they can doctor the paper and register the pups with AKC..WHY??
because AKC dogs can net more money.
Shady breeder can get by for years without being caught..and if they are they will go else where or have the kennel registered in a different name.
AKC is backing commerial breeder, Brokers and puppymills (AKA Hunte Corp) same as the other registries.
Why own an AKC dog??
You have to have an AKC dog if you want to show it in an AKC dog show.
Other registries are doing dog shows too.
AKC does not guarantee quality of a dog only that the parents are registered with them.
If I had to choose from two different dogs.
1. AKC ill bred dog
or
2. A nicely breed ACA/etc registered dog.
I would choose the ACA/etc dog.
I also don't believe you have to pay a small fortune for a good healthy dog.
I bought a so called high priced AKC dog and turned out to be a sick dog.
You just have to choose your breeder well and do your homework before buying a dog.
Sorry for the rant but this is just my opinion...
BY the way I own both AKC and ACA.
Can you tell in the picture which is which???
