My little guy got neutered last week - he came home, kissed his best friend (my other dog), drank a ton of water, and ate like there was no tomorrow - and then slept the day away. The next day he was totally back to normal - I was just careful when I picked him up or handled him for a few days.
I don't notice any difference in him at all. He's still his happy-go-lucky, friendly, playful little self.
You don't have to do much research or listen to very many people to find out that neutering and spaying our pets is the responsible thing for us pet owners to do. So, keep your appointment - get it done - and don't worry.
