Its not necissarily that it's more prevelant in smaller ones, its that the disease tends to make the dog not grow as well, thus the dog ends up smaller. It is definately genetic in some way, though no one is truely sure how. The best bet is to REQUIRE your pup to be bile acid tested prior to purchase...then you know you are getting a pup free of the disease...or at least a congenital one, one can be acquired later in life, though less common.
