I don't think that Yorkies as a breed are hard to train at all, or are predisposed to bark non stop. It really depends on personality of the puppy.

Oscar is my first yorkie - he was the most timid puppy I had ever seen - he shook for a good hour the first time I held him, then eventually settled and fell asleep nestled in my neck. I was completely taken with him, despite his timid side. He was really jumpy about loud noises (regular household sounds) - BUT, I found he was really easy to potty train because of this AND, he didn't bark ONCE for the first 5 mths. He has barked a total of maybe 5 times in his 10mths and it's always been to alarm me when he thinks something is up. He's nowhere near as timid as he was when he was a young puppy now and he loves people, loves to play and run - but also loves to cuddle up on your chest for a snooze. He's my golden boy.

Ruthie is my second yorkie - she's 4mths now and pretty much the exact opposite of what Oscar was when I first brought him home. She's sooo playful and wriggly and rolls onto her back for a belly rub as soon as you reach down to pet her. She does bark, but not excessively - usually when she is playing with Oscar. I'm trying to curb her barking early before she finds her 'full voice'.

I really think a yorkie is a great choice - and ANY dog can be trained to behave the way you would like it to if you're willing to put the work into them.

Good luck with your decision - at least you have a vet right there at home if anything should ever happen!
