Trace would whimper, cry, bark, howl (in that order each louder than the first) when he had to ride in his crate in the car. He goes to work with me every day and not riding in the crate wasn't an option. I tried telling him no or loud noises, he'd hush for about a second and start back up. I think he didn't care if it was good attention or bad attention....it was attention which is what he wanted. Finally I just started ignoring him and he'd quiet down. Now eureka, after a week, there's no more crying when we get in the crate

During the rare times he has to be kept in the bathroom with a baby gate, I've found ignoring him then works too. If he starts up, it's only for a few seconds.....
