I was at work and remember one of by bosses called to tell me that a plane had hit one of the towers at the Trade Center. We had a TV in the office so we were all sitting there and right before our eyes we saw the second plane hit. My mother worked right across the street from the trade center, my heart dropped when I was calling her to see if she was ok...luckily though she stayed home from work that day. They let us out early from work, and my normal 20 minute ride home had become 3 hours because they closed the expressway and the northern state. Days later, just like Gina was saying I took a ride down to Long Beach and saw all the huge boats that were lined up just protecting our shore line, what an erie feeling it was to see something like that so close to home. A few days later I went down to ground zero, never prepared for what I would see there. Poster and posters from family members looking for the lost. It was so quiet there, flowers everywhere, people crying and the smoke still rising from the burning towers. The unfortunate tragedy is something most won't forget, especially those who live here. This was our home. |
