We just don't let Higgins run around offlead without us outside with him. He is waaaaaaaay too fast for us, so when we hear/see a car coming down our ol' dirt road, we get the pups right up by us, preferably in hand. The best control we have is Pogo. I can call Higgins and he will absolutely ignore me. But when I call Pogo, I not only promptly get good ol' Pogo, but Higgins comes right with him so he doesn't miss out on anything. I tell you, the best dog trainer in the world is a good ol' dog who is already trained! |
You're absolutely right!! They have "tunnel vision"!
We didn't mean to let Toto outside ... usually she stops like there is an invisible door right at the threshhold ... but she just shot outside! Pat almost fainted when he realized she was ripping around the yard ... he yelled at her and scared her out of her wits! She natuarally came tearing back inside ... Pat right on her heals yelling "I'm calling a trainer" and reaching for the phone book! It could've been really funny if it hadn't scared us both so badly!

Found a trainer that will come here to the house and Toto will have her first "lesson" next week! It's either that or ... "Red Rover, Red Rover, send Pogo right over!!" So, Higgins Mom ... wanna send Pogo down for a few weeks to teach this little "snot" a few things??
