We lived in Brooklyn, NY at the time- I was home in bed, trying to get some more sleep after dropping my daughter off in school. My husband was online and that is when he read that a plane hit the first tower. He comes to tell me and I'm thinking yea right, he just wants to get me out of bed!
Eventually he put on the radio loud and I jumped up, I couldnt believe it. We lived in a 2family house, so we ran upstairs to my parents and continued to watch it live on TV. Suddenly plane 2 hit, we were all in shock. I started to panick, no one knew why, if more was to come and if it was an attack.
We rushed to get my daughter out of school early. I wanted to be sure she was with me. My brother works not too far from the towers so we made sure he was okay, he was and he actually video taped some of it. My sister and her husband are NYPO so we found out they too were not at that location at that time. We didnt lose anyone we knew but I couldnt help but feel a great sense of loss and anger.
I definately cried alot when we walked around the area a few days after, my heart ached for everyone, people crying all around you, posters all over with pictures of missing people, candles and flowers. Along with that was lots of debris, smoke that lasted for days and even a bad smell. |
