Jessica - this happened w/ me too. Stewie would cry to get picked up. I got a small foot stool type thing to put next to my bed when he was little. It helps him get up. I just ignored him when he cried for a while so he would HAVE to get up there on his own. I'd just ignore him or try having someone sit at the bottom of some steps and you sit at the top with treats to see if he'll go up and down.
