I adopted Duke when he was 12 months old, and he had not yet been neutered. Duke only weighs four pounds, so I made certain to find a vet that had plenty of experience neutering furbabies that were that small.
Duke was a trooper and pulled through with flying colors! The vet sent me home with antiboitics and pain medication that was to be administered twice a day for seven days, and Duke did not give us any trouble at all! The pain meds made him sleep more than usual, but the vet said that was the whole idea. He wanted to make sure that Duke was comfortable and did not want to lick his wounds. Duke didn't need an Elizabethan collar, and I am sure that that made his recovery easier for him because he didn't have that huge disc around his neck.
Duke had a bit of swelling and some brusing, but the vet said that was completely normal because of his size.
As long as you make certain that the vet you chose has experience with little one's like ours, you should not have any problem at all.
